Language technology at work: Translating for the European Commission
Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission is the
largest public translation service in the world. To achieve its annual output
of more than 2 million translated pages, DGT relies heavily on technology. In
this talk, you will learn more about DGT, our mission and the technology we
use, including:
– Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tools: Helping human translators to do their
job efficiently
– Euramis: 1,000,000,000 sentences at one place
– MT@EC and eTranslation: Machine translation as a human translator’s tool
There will also be room for questions and discussion.
About the speaker:
Josef Hlaváč is a translator, an IT trainer and a language technology coordinator in the Czech language department of DGT. With a PhD in computer engineering, he combines translation skills with a passion for information technology. He works and lives in the country of Luxembourg.
